Song Circle: Songs to Heal the Divide
Squirrel Abbey, 2307 Ward St, door on the right, Berkeley, CA 94703
"When they want war, we make beauty. When they demand division, we dive deeper. When they breed hatred, we practice admiration and love. When they demand silence, we sing."- Lydia Violet
Join us for an evening of singing together, with songs from Iran and the U.S. Amidst the deep pain around escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, we will sing to heal the divide, and to heal ourselves.
We will be singing songs from both Iran and American roots and community singing traditions, led by Iranian-American Bay Area artist & scholar Lydia Violet & songleader/songwriter Te Martin.
January 23rd: 7-9pm 2307 Ward St., Berkeley, Door on the right
$10-20 sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds
This is an explicitly antiracist, queer-friendly, trans-affirming space. As we work to undo the structures white supremacy, transphobia, and queer-silencing, POC, Trans, & Queer voices are welcomed and prioritized.
